Help please?? Is there anyway to...?

I got my first tattoo about 2 months ago. The artist screwed up and made the lettering on it WAY too bold. I told him i wanted smooth, small, thin, cursive lettering. It is just a 5 letter name, nothing too long. Is there anyway at all that i could get this turned into thin lettering? Or is it impossible to do? I don't know how well this would work, but would it work to have the artist go over the original lettering with a white or beige type color, and then just go over that in the lettering i DO want? Help??
